After eight years playing together, and a string of cassette and CD releases on labels like Healing Power, Inyrdisk, and Barnyard Records, Vermillion marks Not The Wind, Not The Flag's first time on vinyl. The album consists of two long tracks over 17 minutes that display the duo’s long-form, improvisational approach, similar to the sustained intensity of free jazz but with a harder edge that pushes it towards a heavier sound more often associated with psychedelic rock. Think the mystical pastorals of Alice Coltrane and the cerebral explorations of Ornette Coleman, but deployed using the avant-garde guitar stylings of Robert Fripp and the acidic cacophony of Comets On Fire.
