A spiritual sibling to Baker’s previous work with Pleasence,The Confessional Tapes, (of which The Quietus said: "[it's] one of the most interesting ideas this guy's ever had. And this guy's had more interesting ideas than I've had hot dinners."), but this time with the etherial vocals of Claire Brentnall (of Shield Paters) and a heavier approach to the music.

Of the album's conception, Baker has this to say:

"I wanted to do an album that looked both forwards and back, taking influence from early experimental synth-pop and shoegaze albums and combining those sounds with more contemporary electronics and a certain granular ambience. I took influence more from a few labels' aesthetics and a few of their respective artists, namely: Factory Records - Durutti Column, Section 25, A Certain Ratio; 4AD - Cocteau Twins (Head Over Heels and Garlands, at least), This Mortal Coil; Dossier - Chrome, Minimal Man, Elliott Sharp, Throbbing Gristle. I've shared a stage with Claire's project Shield Patterns. Her voice invites comparisons to both Kate Bush and Liz Fraser, while still being unique and her own, and I thought her vocals would take the songs one step further in that forward/backward direction in a manner that I wouldn't be able to accomplish myself."
